We do not always manage to buy or grow sweet strawberries. I found a great way to make even the most sour and not very attractive berry more tasty and interesting. I marinate it, but not in balsamic vinegar as Italians do, this method is very expensive and the taste is very specific, not everyone will like it.
I am using a more economical and affordable way. Pickled strawberries can be not only an independent dessert that will refresh in the summer heat, but also perfect for ice cream and as a decoration for desserts.
So, strawberries, about 400 grams, I cut into quarters or halves, depending on the size of the berry.
Then I put 2 tablespoons of powdered sugar. The more sour the berry, the more powder you need to put. If the icing sugar has a vanilla flavor, it will be even better. If not, you can add a couple of drops of vanilla extract.
Next, be sure to add the zest of one orange, it can be replaced with lime or lemon. Mix everything well and refrigerate for at least two hours. During the whole time, the berries need to be stirred periodically.
After two hours, remove the berries from the refrigerator and let stand at room temperature for at least 10 minutes.
This is how we have been eating strawberries for the last two days.
