Do you remember how it all happened?

We have already forgotten how we got everything in advance, what we prepared and how we celebrated the onset of the New Year. In vain, of course, very good traditions were laid then.

As the New Year in the USSR was celebrated: about deficit, delicious food and joy

Everyone gathered at a large table, smart and beautiful, and before us are the specialties of our mothers and grandmothers.

Not only salads with mayonnaise, but also cabbage rolls, French meat, fried or baked fish, sometimes some kind of poultry, sprats, Finnish cervelat, tangerines, real chocolate.

Eh, there were times... When everything was tastier, more beautiful, more natural and more fun. Have you noticed?

In the Soviet Union, the New Year in cities has always been celebrated on a special scale. Everything was decorated somehow differently than it is now. Soul or something ...

These paper snowflakes on windows in shops, silvery rain at airports, colorful garlands and flags in waiting rooms of railway stations and clinics.

And also tangerine merchants, cake in a paper box, queues for something delicious ...

Although the very celebration of the New Year in the USSR did not immediately come to us, since the tree was originally a Christmas tree, and only then it turned into a New Year tree. And this holiday was allowed already in the post-war period, namely in 1947, then January 1 was made a day off.

Previously, it was believed that if someone put a Christmas tree at home in secret from the Soviet regime, then they celebrate the old tsarist holidays.

And then they forgot about it completely, at the same time they came up with Santa Claus, and children's matinees, and New Year's lights and the obligatory festive table on December 31 in the evening.

Our citizens began to prepare in advance for the New Year's Eve, since October, they ran in search of something special around the city, looking for acquaintances for this.

And no matter how hard it was for us then, there was much more joy from this holiday. Although the food was scarce and simpler, the outfits were cheaper and the Christmas tree decorations were often homemade.

But the very fact that scarce products were usually “thrown away” on sale in the New Year added some special charm to these New Year's adventures.

We forgot, we forgot how to enjoy less, how to surprise and be surprised at little, how to look beautiful without modern technologies and how to set festive tables for 20-30 people with New Year's dishes from the simplest products.

Everyone has forgotten how to enjoy what we have. And in vain. In modern realities, the skill would be very useful to us.
