For minced meat, beef or lamb is most often used. I took the turkey with chicken. It is best to pass the minced meat through a large grate.

At the same time, I put the potatoes to boil. When the water boils, the potatoes need to be salted. I have about one and a half kilograms of potatoes, corresponding to the amount of meat that I have.

I cut the onion into cubes, carrots into thin slices.

Finely chop the celery stalk, this is optional.

I heat olive oil or some other fat in a pan, spread the onion, rub a clove of garlic here. Fry until light golden brown.

When the wine has evaporated, I add chicken broth or just boiling water, about half a liter. It remains to salt and pepper, reduce heat and simmer for about half an hour.

✅ According to the recipe, meat gravy is thickened with flour. I replaced the flour with a full teaspoon of potato starch. I dilute it in a small amount of cold water and pour it into the gravy towards the end of the process. After half an hour, the gravy is ready and the heating can be turned off.

Potato preparation

While the gravy was frying, the potatoes had time to boil. While it is hot, it needs to be crushed in a way convenient for you. Add some melted butter to the potatoes.

When the mashed potatoes have cooled down a bit, you need to add a couple of egg yolks and 50-60 g of hard grated cheese to it. If you get a very thick puree, then add a little potato broth.

Assembling Shepherd's Pie

Preheat oven to 190°C - 200°C degrees.

Take a baking dish and put the meat sauce in it.

Next, you need to beautifully lay out the mashed potatoes on the meat sauce.

On top again a little cheese, who does not want - do not add. You can lightly drizzle with olive oil.
