Traditional Russian cuisine is too bland, as all foreigners say about it. That is why the Crimean cuisine is different.
It surprisingly combined the oriental aromas of spices of the Tatar and Uzbek cuisine (flatbread, shurpa, lagman), satiety and familiarity of Russian-Ukrainian dishes (borsch, cabbage soup, dumplings), the identity of the Karaites and a thousand-year history Greeks.
The Turks also contributed with baklava, Turkish delight, sherbet and others.
So what does Crimea really taste like? You have to try everything. Here you are not there!
Shurpa, lagman and pilaf
In principle, you can eat delicious shurpa or taste lagman in any institution in Crimea. Even in the sanatorium canteen they are on the menu.
But the most authentic ones, with that unique colorful taste, will only be in a specialized cafe (caravanserai) or as they say here... in the shalman.
For example, at the top of Mount Ai-Petri or in the same Bakhchisarai.
Be sure to take tortillas with the dish. Only not with milk, they are Uzbek, but Tatar. These are flatter and specially for you they will be heated at the stake.
Chebureks, samsa and yantyk
Chebureks are different - from chibereks to chir-chirs. Each people of Crimea offers its own version with a variety of fillings.
By the way, the Greeks are sure that yantyk is exclusively their traditional holiday baked goods.
But samsa... it is either from the Uzbeks, or it is samosas from... Indians. In general, here it is the real taste of Crimea. Cheburechny!
Fish, mussels, rapana and smoked squid
Black Sea scale (small fish on an onion pillow in the oven), barbecues of mussels or rapan with lemon, smoked squid strips, grilled or fried red mullet, mullet in the ear or in a frying pan, dried or fried gobies, baked pelengas, salted horse mackerel or sagging...
Mmmm... It's incredible!
The magnificent taste of Crimea, saturated with the salty sea! No stomach or wallet can resist such a variety.
Karaite cuisine
This is a separate song altogether. You definitely need to go to their cafe or restaurant at least once in your life in order to understand what the food of this people was like thousands of years ago, before and at the dawn of Christianity.
Small-small dumplings Hamur-dolma with red sauce, Chicken Silkme in a pot, Chir-chiri with meat and vegetables and tea on Crimean mountain herbs - well, very interesting and tasty!
Baking Crimea
Not a single cheburek, as they say!
Crimea is a lot of all kinds of baked goods, it's hard not to agree with this. Together with amazing memories and new impressions, we all often bring a few extra pounds from here. And the reason for this is the wheat dough from which a lot of things are baked and fried.
Honey baklava and not only. If you look into a coffee shop in Bakhchisarai or Evpatoria, you can find there a lot of baked or fried dough goodies, of various shapes, tastes and colors.
And of course, how can we go without Kubete - a traditional pie with meat, potatoes and onions.
There will be a lot of impressions not only from the sea and the palaces of the Crimea, if you taste it in every city. As for cabbage soup and potatoes, we'll eat at home.
