On New Year's holidays, we always have a lot of tangerines at home - I can't imagine the New Year without them. I don't throw away the peel that remains after peeling the tangerines. And in this article I want to share with you what I am doing with it.
To begin with, I want to say that before peeling and eating a tangerine, I thoroughly wash it in hot water with soda. This not only cleans the skin of dirt and germs that can get on the wedges, but it also helps to make the tangerine more flavorful. By the way, I do the same with lemons (washing them).
Then I divide the peel into small parts, lay it out on a sheet of paper or on a tray in one layer and dry it just on the windowsill at room temperature. Then I just put it in a glass jar.
How I use it later: you can add a little to the teapot when brewing tea - it will turn out to be very aromatic and tasty. This is much better than the chemical flavoring in tea. Everything is natural here.
You can also grind dried peels in a blender and add them to baked goods and desserts.
Sometimes I add a little peel to the compote - it turns out very fragrant, the taste is pleasant. But I usually throw away the orange peel - it is denser and thicker, bitter.
This is how I use tangerine peel. Do you throw it away or do you also find a use?
