My own aunt is now Uzbek, but from birth she is Russian and according to her passport, too. I have not seen her for 30 years, and over the years her features, gestures and speech have changed a lot. So to speak, "ubiquitous".
Aunt speaks two languages ββwell, and has not forgotten her native language. But I didn't learn the Uzbek language right away, it took time to overcome the language barrier, to understand and study the new way of life, customs and traditions.
Uzbek cuisine is very different from Russian traditional cuisine. At first it was, oh, how difficult it was for my aunt, but she coped and learned everything, despite all the friction and difficulties.
So, in Uzbekistan, it is customary to celebrate any events on a large scale. Not only close relatives, friends and acquaintances are called for birthdays, weddings, commemorations, but also their colleagues at work, neighbors from the street and even ordinary passers-by.
Therefore, you have to cook a lot in order to feed and respect everyone. Namely, to respect guests, to show your respect and reverence to people, is one of the important principles of the Uzbek mentality. Also, if you are invited, it will be indecent to refuse.
In Uzbekistan, dinner parties are a tradition. It is not accepted to get drunk at such events, and is strictly condemned. Alcohol is always present on their tables, expensive, and just for show. He can just stand the whole holiday, and no one will even touch him.
To feed the guests, mainly meat dishes are served on the table, which are usually diluted with vegetables and herbs.
Uzbeks love juicy dishes, so they put a lot of onions, as well as potatoes and pumpkin in manti, samsa, khanum, pasties. A variety of sauces (tomato, sour cream, cream) are also served with dishes.
To make the dishes hearty, lard and oil are added to them. In meat, lamb and beef are preferred, and pork is not eaten on the basis of their religious beliefs.
Not a single feast is complete without pilaf. Pilaf is a classic Uzbek dish and is traditionally prepared from lamb, but you can throw a handful of other peas for a change.
My aunt said that Uzbeks love to dance. Usually women dance and men watch. It is accepted that a girl should go out and dance beautifully, but in no way vulgar. Therefore, girls are taught to dance from childhood.
Uzbek women often dance their traditional dance with money on holidays. They go to the dance floor, they are given money and they dance demonstratively with money in their hands. The more money they give, the hotter the dance will be. In the sense of not debauchery, of course, but dedication to the dance.
Uzbek women should not only skillfully and tasty cook, dance beautifully, but also have a beautiful outfit. Not a single self-respecting Uzbek woman can appear without a beautiful dress and gold jewelry, therefore she thinks over her image in advance. Many sew for themselves.
They say the east is a delicate matter, and it was interesting for me to learn about Uzbekistan, about its traditions, cuisine, customs, and share with my readers.
