"It is inedible" - said the son, having seen one of the "main" delicacies of my pioneer childhood

A short sketch from life on the topic of how our attitude towards food changes with the development of society: what I read not what is acceptable, but tasty, in my childhood, for a modern teenager it already looks like “waste production ".

The attitude of people towards food in general is a funny thing. Here, take at least oysters. They were once considered the food of the poor, and one of the most affordable. Read more stories about Victorian times in England... London proletarians chewed oysters for lack of money for meat.

But... in those days there were a lot of oysters.

As soon as the population was eaten up, the oysters began to "give birth" not in such quantities and the "filling" of the counters with oysters decreased significantly, they migrated to the menu of aristocrats.

Or let's remember the chicken. Once it was a delicacy, now it is the cheapest type of meat. Even chicken fillet is cheaper than pork.

What can we say about "children's" delicacies.

I am silent about the "extralegal", those for which our parents once scolded us. Green berries and fruits once seemed edible. The fact that no one washed them, having taken them from the tree, is not worth remembering, I think.

The nectar of flowers (like these flowers were called "dogs"), the tar of fruit trees - you can list for a long time, just memory is already failing ...

And the potatoes baked in ash, remember?

Without any additional bells and whistles, they buried it in coals, and then rolled it out with sticks, and ate it, without salt, soiled in the same ash, breaking it with fingers black from coals and burning.

Just for the sake of such potatoes, as a child, I was ready to participate in Zarnitsy milestones.

This summer I remembered my childhood, I decided to pamper my family with pioneer joy ...

- That's disgusting! - said my son, seeing the potato baked in this way offered to him. - She's dirty! How can you even eat it?

At first I wanted to be indignant - they say, you do not understand anything about sausage scraps, a child of megacities. And then he looked at this unfortunate potato and thought - and the child is right. You can wrap a potato in foil and bake "civilized".

But in the foil - not that already. I can cook it in foil at home. And in the coals to make it black - the taste of childhood.

Nostalgia.
