I was on a visit, returned hungry and still can't eat, '' a friend complained the other day on Facebook. - Home cooks, tell me, why are you all the time trying to create "something like that" that no one can eat as a result?
The topic “cannot eat” is, for example, interesting for me. I have already written that when traveling, often I cannot bring myself to taste this or that dish, although I am sure of its safety (otherwise they would not try to regale, would they?). This is cheese with larvae, eggs with germs ...
I think (although I do not just think, but I am sure), not adherence to the country's culinary traditions, but disgust plays a huge role. In our culture, it is not customary to consume such products, so it becomes impossible to push them into ourselves.
On the other hand, there are dishes that, it seems, should not arouse suspicion, but there is no way to eat them (again, I think this is at the level of the psyche or psychology, is that right?).
Therefore, I had to clarify - what the poor fellow was treated to at a party, since he is still ill.
It turned out - bloody pancakes. Well, or blood.
Quite a normal dish of Scandinavian and Baltic cuisine. In theory, I know this, a couple of times I even wrote down recipes for myself (purely for collection, I will not cook). There are interesting variations - on pork blood with rye flour, onions, but considering that there is still milk and butter in the dough... In general, this is not mine, not mine.
And now, of course, we have a fad - left after self-isolation - to cook something in order to at least slightly replace the culinary impressions of travel, but such pancakes... It's unnecessary, as for me. To try (rather, to see how they look) in Finland is one thing, in your kitchen it is quite another.
But if you think about it, what's the problem? Blood sausage is quite such a familiar product in Russian cuisine, as it is all over the world. Well, also hematogen (as a child, I believed that it was made from bear blood).
But if you think about it, there are many products that we will eat in our usual form, but we will not eat in a slightly modified form.
The first thing that comes to mind is a herring. Slightly salty, on black bread, and even with pickled onions - an excellent snack. The same as in salads, right?
But fried herring is a nightmare for any student of my age (a little older, a little younger) who has ever been to a hostel where visitors from Asia lived. I don’t know what they did with this herring beforehand (and I don’t want to know), but the stench was such that I didn’t want to eat for a long time.
I have the same tense relationship with liver pancakes, pancakes and cakes. I don't really like the liver by itself - you can "pull out" its taste with a good hot, golden brown crust and the right spices, but... Anyway, I don't feel much pleasure in eating it.
And the liver dough for pancakes, pancakes and cakes (sobsno, these cakes are pancake ones) disgusts me with its appearance. And I don't like the taste either. Well, to be honest (although sneakers will fly at me) - disgusting to me.
This is from what I remembered offhand.
And it happens with you, then the products seem to be familiar, but the combination seems disgusting?
