I show you how a frozen IKEA cake actually looks like. I'll tell you why I didn't like it.
I don’t know about you, but when I’m in Ikea, I can’t walk past their grocery store and grab something with me. It happened this time too. Even from afar, I saw a huge showcase with cakes and realized that today they will go home with me.
There were 2 cakes on sale, and both were deep frozen. This means that after cooking, they were placed in a shock freezer, such an effect cannot be achieved at home. The temperature of the product should drop from +5 to -18 in just 4 hours. This allows you to keep the cakes frozen for a long time.
I bought both cakes, but when I brought them home, my wife persuaded me to try one cake at once, without filming a review, so I'm talking about an almond cake, and a chocolate cake with caramel, we just ate.
The cost of the cake is 449 rubles per 400 grams. For 1 kilogram, 1122 rubles are obtained. This is an average price segment for Russian cakes, which means that you can count on a normal composition. Let's take a look at it.
The composition of the cake is good, but not without flaws. It contains palm oil. Everyone decides for himself whether it is harmful or useful, I adhere to the point of view of the WHO. And they believe that the amount of this oil should be minimized in their diet.
In addition to the composition, the cake itself is presented in all its glory on the package. The image is very appetizing, and beckons to open and try. I propose to open the box and find out what the cake actually looks like.
Surprisingly, the cake inside the cardboard box is without additional packaging. Although this is a "freeze", the cake does not need to be covered from bacteria, they simply do not live in the cold.
Some of the almond petals fell off the cake and lay on the bottom of the box. But this is not critical. The cake looks good, in my opinion, it is very similar to the image from the package. I can't wait to try.
But before we try, let's show you what a cutaway cake looks like. The cake consists of two layers, cream and sprinkled with almonds on top. Everything is simple and nothing out of the ordinary. The same can be said for taste.
Almonds are completely absent in nut cakes, they have been replaced with a mixture of sunflower and apricot seeds. I'm used to having almond crumbs in such cakes, so I didn't really like the taste. It's not bad, but I expected something different.
I didn't like the cream. In my opinion, palm oil was added to it, which is why the taste of the cream is too oily. The almonds that cover the cake also pumped up. It absorbed moisture from the cake and became wet and not crunchy at all. It's time to take stock.
Despite the good composition, I did not like the cake. Mainly because of the taste. I will not buy this again.
