"As you are near, please return the bank." It was with these words that the ordering in the cafe ended. I usually hear this phrase from my mother or mother-in-law when they hand me jam or pickles, but I never expected to hear it from a waiter in a cafe in the center of Moscow. I was glad that the business went towards separate waste collection, but the longer I was in the cafe, the more I realized that this was just a beautiful wrapper.
It turned out that the coffee shop I visited adheres to the principle Zero Waste - zero waste, if literally translated from English.
I must say that in our family we have been adhering to this concept for a year. Once a month, I recycle huge bags of plastic, paper, and anything else that can be recycled.
At such moments, I feel like a pioneer who decided to overfulfill the plan for the collection of waste paper. But today I want to talk about something else. I suggest taking a look at a cafe that cares about the environment.
As I mentioned earlier, the coffee shop is located in the very center of Moscow, and I happened to be in it by accident. I went for coffee after the meeting and I was attracted by canned desserts, since I have been making these in my pastry shop for a long time. I'll come back to desserts, but for now let's see how the cafe looks inside.
The coffee shop is decorated in modern minimalism. Plain concrete walls and bright neon lights on the ceiling. The room is very small, which makes it a bit crowded in the cashier area, especially if there is a queue. In my case, it was so and it was not possible to see the window at once, so first I had to get acquainted with prices through the monitor screen.
In my opinion, coffee prices are high. But they promise that the ingredients are organic and the coffee is made according to the highest canons of coffee brewing. A disposable glass is charged separately. 10 rubles is a small amount, which, in theory, should induce you to come with your thermos mug. But they didn’t even ask me if I had one, they just sold the glass and didn’t even tell about its harm to the planet.
I think that I just gave these 10 rubles to the owner of the establishment. After all, I know that such glasses are not accepted for processing and they do not decompose in nature. While I was thinking about it, the queue resolved and I was able to look at the window.
In addition to a small selection of freshly baked goods, there is a separate showcase with desserts and food.
Everything is packed in glass jars of different sizes. Glass is highly recyclable and can be reused. But the prices surprised me. And not for the better.
If you look at the pictures of the shop window, you can see why. The portions are small and the prices are high. If it were not for the desire to try, and then tell in the blog what kind of desserts in the cans turned out, I most likely would not have bought anything. I took a couple of desserts to try, in the near future I will talk about them in a separate article, and now it's time to summarize.
It seemed to me that the institution was wrapped up in a beautiful one, but did not fill it with meaning at all. Without going into details, it seems that the cafe really cares about the environment. But looking at the details, you realize that all this environmental friendliness is purely a publicity stunt to stand out from other cafes. It's a pity.
