What are kiwi berries and how do they look? Friends brought a small box from abroad, I show what is inside.
If I am asked what to bring from abroad, I ask not a magnet, but something unusual from food or fruits.
My good friends were on a business trip in Chile and brought me a package with exotic kiwi berries. Upon arrival, friends went to a two-week quarantine, so I picked up the package quite recently. Let's see what exactly kiwi berries are.
The size of the box is similar to those that are sold in our supermarkets with fresh berries. A total of 125 grams of berries inside. Apart from the label, which depicts the kiwi, there is no other information. It's time to find out what's inside.
The box contains a handful of green berries. It was purchased 3 weeks ago and the berries have already started to shrivel. But I don't know what they should really be, maybe this is their natural appearance.
The size of the berry is small, similar to the gooseberry. A regular kiwi is 10 times larger than this berry. But unlike kiwi, this berry has no rough skin at all. Here it is greenish and completely smooth. Before trying it, I decided to read what they write about these berries on the Internet.
It turned out that the plant that produces these berries is called Actinidia acute. In the USA and Russia, this plant is popular with gardeners for its beautiful flowers. In addition, Actinidia grows in the Far East of Russia and is called raisins there. Okay, what is it, figured out, it's time to try.
All my berries were soft, I don't know what they should really be. The berries did not look bad, so I will try. The “kishmish” tasted pleasant. It is very similar to kiwi, only without the sourness, from which teeth drive.
Otherwise, the taste is very similar to regular kiwi. I was glad that such kiwi does not need to be peeled, but you can eat it right away. I wonder if such berries are sold in Russia. To do this, I had to turn to the Internet again.
I have never seen such berries in stores before, so when I found out that they can be bought in some chain supermarkets, I was surprised. I do not know how many kiwi berries cost in Chile, where they were brought from, but they ask for 240-300 rubles for 125 g. Or 2,400 rubles per kilogram, though not bad. It's time to summarize.
I liked the kiwi berries, but I did not feel any wild delight. I will definitely not buy them specially in our stores. If you suddenly want to surprise yourself with something new, you can take 1-2 times for a test, but you will hardly want to constantly buy.
