Croissant is a famous delicacy of French coffee houses and restaurants. This is an airy baked product consisting of many thin layers of dough, with or without filling.
A cup of coffee with a croissant is perhaps the most popular association with breakfast, surpassed only by scrambled eggs and bacon.
With the advent of high-quality puff pastry in supermarkets, it has become quite easy to bake croissants at home, for example, filled with boiled condensed milk. And as a dressing - chopped nuts mixed with powdered sugar.
Ingredients:
Yeast-free puff pastry - 500 g
Condensed milk boiled - ½ can
Chicken egg - 1 pc.
Nuts - 1 tablespoon
Powdered sugar - 1 tbsp.
Step by step recipe:
1. Prepare food: if the dough is frozen, defrost it. To do this, in the evening, transfer it from the freezer to the refrigerator and leave it overnight. Thus, the semi-finished product will defrost delicately, condensation will not form inside the package, and the quality of the product will not suffer. The chilled dough can be used directly to form croissants. Boiled condensed milk is suitable both from the store and cooked on your own. Choose nuts to taste, they must first be peeled and chopped in a blender to a state of fine crumbs, but not flour.
2. For sprinkling, mix the nuts with powdered sugar. Break the egg into a suitable bowl and beat with a fork or whisk.
3. Spread the puff pastry on a work surface. If the layer is thick, roll it out with a rolling pin. It is more convenient to use the dough that is sold in rolls; it does not need to be additionally rolled out. Cut it into triangles with a 9 cm base.
4. Take one triangle of dough in your hands and stretch it a little in length, then put 1 tsp on its wide side. with a slide of boiled condensed milk.
5. Wrap the filling with one hand while slightly stretching the narrow side of the dough with the other hand.
6. This will give the croissant many layers, and the finished product will look like in a real French coffee shop.
7. Do the same for the rest of the dough and place the croissants on a baking sheet lined with baking paper or a silicone mat. It is necessary to leave a little space between them, as the baked goods will noticeably increase in volume in the oven. Brush the surface of the dough with a beaten egg.
8. Sprinkle with a mixture of nuts and powdered sugar. Bake croissants in an oven preheated to 210-220 degrees for 20-25 minutes until tender.
9. Cool baked goods on the wire rack and serve with a cup of tea or coffee.
Croissants with boiled condensed milk are very good for breakfast or for a leisurely evening tea with the family.
In a hermetically sealed container or in a bag, the dough does not lose its properties the next day, it still crunches and melts in the mouth. But before you pack the treat, you need to let it cool completely at room temperature.
