Meatballs without rice with Italian-style gravy

Round meatballs in sauce are known by various names in most folk cuisines. We used to cook meatballs with rice added to the minced meat. Let's step back from the conventional method and cook them in Italian. The ingredients are not quite ordinary, but the recipe is interesting.

Ingredients:

Mixed minced meat - 500 grams

Cottage cheese - 200 grams

Parmesan cheese - 50 grams

Onions -1 pc.

Garlic - 2 cloves

Egg -1 pc.

Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons

Tomato paste -1 tbsp

Balsamic vinegar -2 tbsp

Salt - 1 tsp

Dried basil - 1 tsp

Lemon for zest - 1 pc.

Course of action:

1. Prepare ingredients. It is advisable to cook minced meat yourself from beef and pork. Grate Parmesan cheese on a fine grater. Instead of tomato paste, you can use any ready-made tomato sauce or canned tomatoes in your own juice.

2. Dice the onions and chop the garlic.

3. Remove a thin layer of zest from the lemon.

4. Heat 1 tablespoon in a skillet. vegetable oil and fry the onion with garlic.

5. Combine minced meat, cottage cheese, grated Parmesan cheese, salt and dry basil in a bowl.

6. Add the sautéed onion, garlic and lemon zest. Knead the minced meat well with your hands.

7. Form round patties with wet hands.

8. Add 1 tablespoon to the pan. vegetable oil and fry the meatballs until browned on all sides.

9. Dissolve tomato paste with water, add balsamic vinegar. Pour the sauce over the meatballs. Cover the pan with a lid and simmer over low heat for 40 minutes.

Taste the sauce, you may need to add salt or a little sugar if the tomatoes are too sour. In the process of languishing, the meat balls are soaked in the gravy, and the gravy itself will thicken.

Thanks to cottage cheese, meatballs without rice with gravy are lush and juicy. Parmesan, zest and basil add zest to them.
