The most common appetizer on our table is pickled / smoked mackerel or herring. Today we will marinate mackerel according to a simple recipe at home and get a very tasty fish that you can serve both for a home lunch and for a festive feast. It tastes like Mackerel in Its Own Juice canned food. In pickled form, there are few calories in it, so it is suitable for dietary nutrition.

Ingredients:

Fresh frozen mackerel - 3 pcs.

Apple cider vinegar - 3 tablespoons

Salt - 1 tablespoon

Sugar - 1 tablespoon

Water - 1 liter.

Black peppercorns - 1 tsp

Bay leaf - 2 pcs.

Bulb onions - 1 pc.

French mustard - 1 tbsp

We prepare the necessary ingredients according to the list. Buy fish dense, light, without yellow spots. The appearance and taste of the pickled snack will depend on its quality.

We defrost the mackerel, but not completely. Slightly frozen fish is better cut into neat pieces. We cut off the head, if any, we free it from the insides. We remove the black film, from which the fish will taste bitter if left.

Next, we wash the carcasses and dry them with a paper towel. Cut into portions.

Optionally, you can marinate the fillets, freeing the mackerel from the skeleton and bones. But this option seems to me more suitable for marinating fish in a mustard-mayonnaise marinade.

Take a jar or enamel pot. We put the prepared pieces of fish in a container.

Prepare the marinade: stir salt, sugar and mustard in water for piquancy.

Cut the peeled onion into large slices.

Add the onion to the marinade, bring to a boil and let it boil for half a minute. Next, pour in apple cider vinegar and immediately remove from heat. Leave to cool until warm.

Fill the fish with marinade. After closing the lid, put the jar in the refrigerator.

In a day, our marinated mackerel according to this simple recipe is ready. Such a pickled fish is stored in the refrigerator for up to three days. Put it on a serving plate, add onion rings.

Very aromatic pickled mackerel will be delicious with boiled or fried potatoes and just with a slice of black bread.
