This dish is present in many cuisines of the world - grandma, casserole, kugel, kugelis, potato casserole are very much loved and popular among different nationalities. Today I will show you one of my family's favorite potato grandma recipes. I warn you, the dish is very satisfying and incredibly high in calories.

Ingredients:
Potatoes - 1 kg
Pork - 200 g
Champignons - 150 g
Lard (bacon) - 50 g
Egg - 1-2 pcs.
Cream 10% - 100 g
Salt to taste
Ch.m. pepper - taste
Lean oil - 1 tablespoon
Bulb onions - 1 pc.
How to cook:
Prepare all the foods on the list. Peel the potatoes and onions, wash them together with the pork under running water, dry them.
Heat some lean refined oil in a skillet, add the chopped pork into it. Fry it for 10 minutes until golden brown.
Next, load the onion cut into half rings. Cook for a few more minutes, until translucent.
Then add mushrooms cut into thin slices to the pan, cook for 3-4 minutes. At the very end, put chopped bacon or, in extreme cases, bacon in the pan. Fry for a minute or two, this meat product should not become dry cracklings.
Meanwhile, grate the potatoes on a coarse grater. Transfer it to a deep bowl, pour in hot cream, stir. This dairy product not only makes the finished dish tastier, but also prevents the potatoes from darkening.
Whisk in one or two eggs and season with salt and pepper to taste. Stir vigorously.
Place the sautéed pork, bacon, and vegetables into the potatoes. Try to keep excess fat in the pan. Mix everything well again.
Now put the mass in a baking sheet or in a mold, flatten with a spoon or kitchen spatula, and cook at 190-200 degrees for 30 minutes. Then lower the temperature to 180 degrees and continue baking the potato grandma until fully cooked, another 20-30 minutes.
Cut the cooked casserole into portions and serve with fresh vegetables as a separate dish. It is also very tasty to serve sour cream with such a potato grandma.
Enjoy!
When preparing this dish in the oven, there are several important points to remember:
- The higher the potato layer in the baking sheet, the longer the grandmother will cook.
- The amount of bacon / bacon should not be overused, as it will melt the fat during baking and the casserole will literally "float" in it.
- You do not need to replace the cream with milk (so that the potatoes do not darken). This significantly affects the taste and smell of the finished dish.
