Cooking catfish is a pleasure. The fish carcass is devoid of scales, has a minimum amount of bones, it has very tender white meat, while it is quite fat, and most importantly, it is a lot, since catfish is a large fish. Dishes with him are full of their variety of recipes. Fish can be fried over an open fire, steamed or baked in the oven, cooked whole or cut into pieces. The soft catfish meat is excellent in itself, but in combination with vegetables, its taste will definitely sparkle in a new way.

Today we bake a large catfish steak in the oven. It will be complemented by vegetables, cheese and spices. Such a dish looks decent on any festive table.

Ingredients:

Catfish steak - 1 pc. (480 gr.)

Potatoes - 1 pc.

Carrots - 1 pc.

Onions - 1 pc.

Hard cheese - 100 gr.

Vegetable oil - 1 tablespoon

Lemon - 0.5 pcs.

Thyme - 0.5 tsp

Rosemary - 0.3 tsp

Dry parsley - 0.3 tsp

Salt, pepper - to taste

How to cook:

Prepare all the necessary foods from the list. Clean the fish if necessary. I used a large sized catfish steak that had already been peeled.

Rinse the fish and blot well the moisture on top with a tissue. Place it in a deep bowl, sprinkle with salt and pepper on both sides. I used about 1 teaspoon of salt. Top the steak with freshly squeezed lemon juice, after removing all the seeds from the citrus.

Cover the fish with gauze and marinate for 30 minutes. Turn the piece over once during this period.

In the meantime, prepare the vegetables. Peel the potatoes from the top layer, rinse. Cut the tuber in half, then cut into thin slices. Potato slices must be thin, otherwise they will not have time to cook during the baking period.

Grease a baking dish or a regular cast-iron pan without a handle with vegetable oil. Lay potato slices on the bottom, grind them with salt and pepper.

Peel and rinse the onions and carrots. Cut the carrots into slices, the onions into long feathers. Put the vegetables in a container on top of the potatoes, evenly distributing them.

Place the pickled piece of catfish on a vegetable “pillow”. Sprinkle the fish with a little oil, sprinkle with thyme, rosemary and dry parsley. There is no need to add water, vegetables will languish in their own juice.

Grate the cheese on a coarse grater. Pour the contents of the container with cheese chips.

Cover the fish and vegetables with foil before sending to the oven. Preheat the oven in advance to a temperature of 180 degrees, load the container inside.

The approximate baking time is 30 minutes. Remove the foil 10 minutes before the end of the process so that the fish takes on a beautiful ruddy color.

After cooling, the baked catfish with vegetables can be served. Sprinkle a little fresh herbs on the dish, sprinkle with lemon juice.
