From childhood, we hear that cereals are very useful. It is especially important to use them in the morning, because thanks to cereals, our body receives energy for the whole day.

But how will you react if you find out that some of the cereals can, on the contrary, be harmful. And this is actually the case.

Features of cereals: what does the glycemic index say?

A common disadvantage of any cereals is the starch content. Once in the body, it is converted into glucose. To separate all foods that affect sugar, experts have come up with one important indicator - the glycemic index.

For example, the GI of sugar syrup is 100. GI indicators of cereals are from 30 to 70, which means that they are on the "border" between healthy and moderate foods.

And this suggests that too frequent use of them is not beneficial.

Oatmeal

There is also a danger in this croup. Its disadvantage is phytic acid, which inhibits calcium absorption. But it not only interferes with calcium absorption, but also flushes it out of the body. It is for this reason that it is best to consult a doctor first before using the popular oatmeal diets.

But instant porridge is especially dangerous.

Their fine grinding differs significantly in terms of properties and benefits from ordinary oatmeal. And in its composition there is much less dietary fiber important for the body.

Eating such porridge, you simply deprive yourself and other useful substances. In parallel with this, easily digestible carbohydrates enter the body along with instant porridge.

The composition contains a lot of starch, which quickly breaks down, which is why, a couple of hours after breakfast, the feeling of hunger again comes.

The effect of eating such porridge is comparable to a large piece of sweet dessert.

Millet

Another cereal to be careful with. The fact is that it can cause strong gas formation. Therefore, it is not recommended to use it if there are problems with the intestines.

Also in millet more often than in other cereals, small bugs start up. Therefore, before cooking it must be carefully examined.

Semolina

The most ambiguous product. It consists of 70% starch, has one of the highest GI values.

In addition, semolina contains few nutrients and vitamins. But there is a lot of gluten protein, which, however, is dangerous for celiac disease - intolerance to this substance.

Many nutritionists warn against the use of semolina. This is due to the phytin and gliadin it contains. Especially dangerous is the latter substance, which is gluten, which causes necrosis of the villi on the intestinal walls. Because of this, the absorption of nutrients is impaired.

Therefore, it is highly undesirable to include semolina in the diet of children under three years of age. This can cause such a serious illness as rickets.

White rice

In fact, this porridge is completely useless. Yes, white rice is cheap, but its use is of no use: cereals do not contain important vitamins and minerals for health. And the high glycemic index of the product is an important drawback.

Regular consumption of rice inhibits intestinal motility. Therefore, it is definitely worth giving up for those who have a problem of excess weight.

Unpolished rice is best. Yes, it is more expensive, but such a cereal is useful.

Barley porridge

Yes, she's useful. But only when used correctly. So, the dangerous properties of such a product are associated with the fact that it contains gluten. But this is a dangerous substance for those who have a genetic intolerance to such a substance.

Moreover, the statistics are disappointing: in the past few years, every third person has such a problem.

Corn grits

The main danger of such porridge is an increased glycemic index. This means that regular use of such a product can cause excess weight.

In addition, in order not to worsen your condition, you should not eat corn grits in the presence of gastrointestinal ulcers, in case of allergies.
