Since ancient times, turnip has occupied a central place on the dining tables of many peoples of the world. It was boiled, stewed, fried, baked and steamed. Fairy tales and legends were composed about turnips, songs were dedicated to it. Without her, it was impossible to imagine any dinner meal.

Today we will cook turnips fried in a pan. This dish can be an excellent side dish for meat, poultry or fish. Add arugula or lettuce for a delicious and healthy warm salad. In general, decide for yourself how and with what to serve this dish.

Ingredients:

  • Turnip - 300 g
  • Bulb onion - 1 pc.
  • Garlic - 1 clove
  • Lean oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Salt to taste
  • Ch.m. pepper - taste
  • Dill - a few twigs
Step 1 of 6

Prepare all the necessary foods from the list. Peel the onions, garlic and turnips. Wash under running water along with dill, pat dry with paper towels.

Buy a small turnip, then the root vegetable inside will be juicy, with a sweetish taste. Large fruits are often white inside, fibrous, with a pronounced bitterness.

Step 2 of 6

Heat some lean, unscented refined oil in a frying pan, put onion chopped in half rings into it. Saute lightly over medium heat until soft.

Step 3 of 6

Cut the root vegetable into strips or thin slices, so the dish will cook faster. Add water little by little. Simmer the turnips in a skillet for about 15 minutes, until completely soft.

Step 4 of 6

When the turnip is completely cooked, add the minced garlic clove. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Simmer for a minute or two to give the garlic maximum flavor.

Step 5 of 6

Finely chop the dill sprigs, add to the pan. Stir the dish one last time and turn off the stove immediately. Leave covered for 10 minutes to mix all the flavors.

Step 6 of 6

Remove and discard garlic before serving. Divide the fried turnips into portions and serve as a side dish or as a side dish, ideal during fasting.

Enjoy!
