The most popular side dish in Germany is cabbage stew with tomato paste. It is served both as an independent dish and with meat or fish dishes, for example, with baked pork knuckle.

Cabbage is prepared in a matter of minutes, it turns out juicy, colorful and very tasty. Those who prefer spicy flavors are advised to add to the dish in the last minutes of cooking compressed or dried garlic, store-bought grain mustard, ground red pepper, or fresh chili, not cut.

Stewed cabbage is delicious both hot and cold, especially with sour cream, toasted toast, croutons, croutons or croutons.

Ingredients:

White cabbage - 1 fork (400 g)

Bulb onions - 1 pc.

Tomato paste - 3 tablespoons

Garlic - 2 cloves

Vegetable oil - 30 ml

Spices to taste

Greens for serving

Preparation:

1. Peel the onions, immediately rinse the vegetable in water, cut into small cubes. Heat a frying pan with vegetable oil previously poured onto it. Put the onion slices into a container and saute until soft for 3-4 minutes on medium heat. Instead of onions, it is permissible to use red onions, leeks, but only the white part of it.

2. Peel the top leaves from the fork, cut it into pieces and chop it, spreading the slices into a deep container. When creating a dish of late varieties of cabbage, the chopped strips must be crushed with your hands so that it releases the juice.

3. By this time, the onion slices will be golden brown but not burnt.

4. Put the cabbage in the pan. If there is a lot of it, lay it out in parts so that the first is extinguished and reduced in size, then the second etc. That is why it is imperative to use a container with high sides, a saucepan, a frying pan, cauldron.

5. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Sprinkle with ground paprika or other spices, seasonings if desired. Simmer on minimum heat for about 10 minutes, stirring the contents of the container from time to time.

6. Lay out the tomato paste. It can be replaced with tomato juice, peelless tomato pulp.

7. Press a couple of peeled garlic cloves into a container, mix gently and simmer until cooked for another 5-7 minutes. Be sure to taste the dish, add a little granulated sugar if the tomato paste turns out to be sour.

8. Place cooked cabbage stews on plates.

9. Serve with chopped dill or parsley.
