This is not food, this is punishment

I remembered a story from my childhood, dear friends (well, not friends either). At ten years old, I had a chance to spend three weeks in the village with relatives, and all these three weeks buckwheat porridge was served daily for dinner.

With a cape, with onions, with carrots, flavored with butter and amazingly tasty. In my opinion, there were still mushrooms in it, however, I can't say for sure - it would be small and not particularly interested in cooking.

On the first day I did not eat it, I devoured it - with a large spoon.

I did not refuse when the remnants of the evening porridge were warmed up in the morning.

For dinner, she was again - fragrant, nourishing ...

And again for breakfast ...

By the end of the first week, there was a feeling that I was pushing buckwheat into myself, and she was climbing back, taking it even through my nose and ears. A week later, the only meal for me was sugar bread, which they carried during the day.

And when the bag of buckwheat ended, and the inviting party began to "dig in" the potatoes, then... Oh, it was a holiday! Just boiled potatoes without any oil, with salt - what a yummy it turned out to be!

Why am I writing this?

Not at all in order to curse buckwheat or praise potatoes. It's just that since then, no, no, and I thought - only I, small, suffered from the fact that the diet was irreplaceably boring? Is this really the norm for everyone else?

The fact is that every now and then in my feed I see the headlines "I cooked once and now I cook every day." "I've been cooking this way for a month now and the family is happy." Well, stuff like that. And I ask myself - is it true? No, I believe people and I think that they are writing the truth, but here ...

For me, the same dish every day is, you know, not food, but rather a punishment. In ancient China, it seems, there was an execution (or not in China, I don’t remember exactly) when the condemned was fed plenty of boiled meat and water. And nothing else was given. The one sentenced... was sentenced. Because the body stopped functioning on such a diet.

I understand that no one will bring loved ones to such a state... But is it really possible that after a week of mono-diet the same dish is getting into people? And when they get bored of it, how many years have they not looked at it?
