I tried “Tyrolean Pie” with strawberries and share my thoughts and impressions of the tasting.
I recently posted a few strawberry recipes. After that, readers began to send messages in a personal message asking them to cook "Tyrolean Pie" with strawberries. I have not tasted the pies of this brand for a long time, so I first decided to taste it.
It is not a problem to buy Tyrolean Pie, they are sold in almost all supermarkets. I bought mine at Metro Cash and Carry for 370 rubles. The pie weighs 700 grams, which means a kilogram costs 528 rubles. The price is pretty low. I wonder what the composition of such a cake is.
What composition
In the first place in the composition, strawberries are indicated, which means that there are most of them in the pie, and this is a good moment. Further, the composition is already difficult to read, since it is written in small print and is rather long.
I will not go into details, but I can say that the composition contains vegetable fats and oils, although it is not indicated which ones. The most common vegetable fat is palm oil. I don't see anything wrong with palm oil itself, but I don't like it when people try to hide it.
What does it look like
Tyrolean pie is one of those types of pies that look very good. Even through the packaging, you can see that there are a lot of strawberries in the cake. It's time to cut the pie and see how it looks in section.
How does it look in section
The cut shows that the cake consists of three layers. Bottom is a layer of biscuit, then the creamy part and the top layer is a strawberry drenched in jelly.
For the sake of interest, I decided to see what the manufacturer writes about his pie. This is the description on the website: "Sponge cake with fragrant whole strawberries and butter custard." There is also a description of each layer separately.
In reality, the cut on the cake is not as beautiful as on the website, but in general it is consistent. But at the expense of a thin layer of jelly, I would argue. In my opinion, there is a lot of jelly here, this moment is poorly visible in the photo, but in some places there is too much jelly.
What a taste
The biscuit in the cake is the most common, it is clearly saturated with something, but in moderation, that is, liquid does not flow from it, as is the case with ordinary cakes.
This is followed by a cream that has nothing to do with custard. Although, the website states that the pie is made with custard cream. My feeling is that the cream looks more like whipped vegetable cream with the addition of flavors.
The whole strawberry and jelly top, on the other hand, is delicious. I would reduce the amount of jelly and add more strawberries, but then I would have to raise the cost. I also have big doubts that it is fresh strawberries that are used in the production. Based on the texture, frozen strawberries are used. It's time to take stock.
Outcomes
I liked the Tyrolean pie, however, its description does not correspond to what ends up on the shelves. The cake is delicious and affordable.
The only thing I didn't like was that the manufacturer decided to hide which specific vegetable oils and fats he used for cooking. In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with indicating them.
