They say that it is very easy to identify a Russian tourist or who has moved there for temporary residence (again, a Russian) abroad. And not by the language we speak. And not even in appearance... but in the products that he uses.
Yes Yes.
Recently I read the memoirs of a former Russian traveler about the glorious times of free movement around the world. Or rather, not memories, but bashful groans.
They say that while all civilized tourists enjoy delicacies in the best restaurants, Russians, choked by toad and poverty, chew analogs of doshirak everywhere.
Hmm, hmm, hmm….
No matter how much you travel with your family, we have never seen anything like this. Even in places with a high concentration of Russian downshifters.
They did not have time to visit Goa, but take, for example, the same Tai. A very illustrative example, by the way.
Thais cook very little and rarely at home. Maybe because of the heat, maybe because of the mentality.
There is a very developed street trade, a lot of all kinds of eateries, cafes, mobile tents. And this is in addition to chic first line restaurants in tourist areas.
And there is also a 7/11 chain of stores, which, one might say, are grocery discounters near the house.
And I know you won't believe me, but the main buyers of all kinds of instant noodles and other semi-finished products from the “just add water” series are there... Europeans.
I don’t know why this is so. Maybe, again, the mentality? Or rejection of local food?
Because in Tai such food is not an attempt to save money, at least, I think so.
I already mentioned that you can eat there everywhere. Food, street and not particularly - at every turn.
And yes, it's cheap, very cheap. In first line restaurants, of course, it is expensive. But so why go there ???
Eating is tasty, satisfying and in such a way that you can fully appreciate the local cuisine - in a cafe or even in the market, the main thing is to choose a place where there are many locals.
So there will be a guarantee that they cook well there and from fresh products. Local residents, who find it easier to eat somewhere outside the home, will not go to an institution where they are shod with dirty tricks. And food there will cost no more than a plastic tub with unknown contents from "7/11", while meat or seafood will be attached to noodles or rice.
And our Russians are actively using this. Anyway, I noticed that Russians in any country strive to try as many local products as possible, to learn as much new as possible. And in general, they are not accustomed to deny themselves simple pleasures.
But foreigners are the opposite. Especially the Chinese, by the way. Those are everywhere with noodles in tubs, and, as it seems to me, they bring these noodles with them. But the Chinese are a separate story. If this is not a fully Europeanized, re-educated and well-trained Chinese man, let him eat in the room better.
Why did I write this?
Yes, in general, just like that. Well, and also to say: when they once again come up with fables about the "terrible Russians", the way is already coming up with something more real.
For example, they swooped down, ate everything, drank everything, and it turned out to be not enough - ours can do that, yes. But rush for noodles in plastic on vacation... it's not about Russians, guys
