And he almost burned down the apartment.
Hello! My name is Andrey Bunbich, I am a pastry chef and the author of this blog. Recently, on Instagram Stories, I shared how I made my first dessert. The story raised a lot of questions, and I decided to write a separate article on this topic.
I made my first dessert at the age of 7 and for a long time believed that this is a fairly early age for self-cooking. But in the comments, many people wrote to me who started even before me.
A couple of people said that they started cooking on their own at the age of 3. The very first thing they made was hot cheese sandwiches. And someone, at the age of 5, baked their first charlotte.
I don't remember exactly why I suddenly decided to bake a pie, but most likely I messed up something at school and decided to make amends in this way.
As soon as my parents left for the first meeting at school, I got down to work. First, I kneaded the dough into charlotte. I chose this cake because my mother cooked it most often, and simply memorized the necessary ingredients and the cooking process.
Then he chopped the apples, mixed with the dough, poured into a mold and sent to bake in our gas oven. If you think that I took the time and stayed in the kitchen to follow the process, then this was not the case.
As soon as the pie was in the oven, I left to play with the brothers. I safely forgot about the charlotte. I did not even remember about her at the moment when my parents returned home.
But my mother immediately felt that something was wrong in the house. And how not to feel here when the whole kitchen was already in smoke. Exactly at that moment I remembered the charlotte.
Thank goodness the parents returned on time and there was no fire. But the charlotte suffered anyway. When the cake cooled down, my mother neatly cut off anything that had burned. Charlotte has almost halved, but it has become edible. Mom called everyone to the table, and we sat down to take a bite of tea with my first culinary masterpiece.
I don’t remember exactly whether it was tasty or not, but this charlotte will remain in my memory for the rest of my life. I am very grateful to my mother that she did not scold me for this incident. On the contrary, she told me about the safety rules with the oven and began to involve in every possible way in the work in the kitchen.
Perhaps this is how my mother instilled in me a love of cooking desserts, and I became who I am now. That's the whole story.
Do you remember what you cooked for the first time in your life and at what age it was? Let us know in the comments.
