A step-by-step recipe for making a healthy compote. I am sharing the recipe with you.

While walking with my son, I met a peasant in the forest who was collecting hawthorns. I had not noticed these thickets with berries before. I always believed that hawthorn can only be eaten or brewed. I asked the guy what he was doing with him.

It turned out that he cooks compote from hawthorn every year. Then he began to talk about the benefits of these berries, but I did not remember what exactly. The guy got very talkative and shared his recipe with me.

In the end, I decided to pick berries for myself. Since I had a son in my arms, I didn't manage to collect much, but it should be enough for a three-liter jar. I will not delay, let's cook!

If you do not have such a beautiful forest, then do not worry, now you can buy hawthorn even on the Internet. I looked at Yandex. Market, there it can be purchased at 200 rubles per kilogram.

Step by step recipe on how to make hawthorn compote

Ingredients:

  • Hawthorn 500 g
  • Sugar 300 g
  • Water 2.5 - 3 l
  • Citric acid ΒΌ teaspoon

I sort out the hawthorn and get rid of all the spoiled fruits. This is important, as even one bad berry can ruin an entire batch.

I pour sugar into a three-liter jar. Add washed hawthorn on top and pour boiling water under the very neck.

Stir until sugar is completely dissolved and leave to brew for 10-15 minutes.

I pour the liquid into a saucepan and put it on fire. I bring the syrup to a boil, pour it back into the jar to the berries and add citric acid.

I close the lid, turn the jar over and put it in a cold oven until it cools completely. You can, of course, wrap it in a blanket, but I'm more comfortable with the oven.

When the compote has completely cooled down, I put it in a dark place for storage. Let's show what I did.

In my opinion, the compote turned out to be very sweet, so I dilute it with water. But the taste for me turned out to be too delicate, I still like more intense and bright.
