I have things in my kitchen that are much older than me, but I use them regularly. I show and tell why I don't throw them away.
I am often asked what kind of inventory I have in my kitchen. And when I say that I have a lot of things that come from the Soviet Union, many are surprised. On the contrary, I am surprised at their surprise, because these things are unrealistically cool.
And the fact that they are older than me and still function perfectly proves that they are made with high quality and will not fall apart after a month of intensive use.
Of course, now there is a huge selection of kitchen utensils, but most of them have so-so quality. Recently I bought a set of baking dishes for 1000 rubles, 3 tins included. They looked good in the sealed package, but when I opened them, I realized that they were made as if made of foil, it was impossible to bake in them.
Therefore, I love my Soviet findings and use them constantly. I have a feeling that they will still be inherited by my children or even grandchildren.
1. Apple cutter
Made with high quality and for its 30+ years has not even dull. I haven't sharpened it yet. It copes well with apples of any kind. Most often I use it in autumn, when you need to prepare a lot of apple compote.
2. Juice cooker
In order for this gadget to work in modern conditions, the lower pan had to be replaced with an induction cooker compatible. But everything else works great. The only thing missing is the rubber spout. But a friend, a moonshiner, promised to give him a pipe, and all that was left was to visit him.
3. Waffle iron
This wonderful gift was made by my mother-in-law. She has 2 waffle irons left from Soviet times. I had to replace the power wire. And after the first check, the incandescent spiral also went for replacement, the old one completely decayed and did not heat up properly. But everything else works great.
4. Cast iron duck
Cast iron cookware is something. I love to cook in it. I have 2 cast iron molds, for some reason I call them ducklings. If you know how to do it correctly, write in the comments. From today's selection, I use them most often. I bake bread in them almost every day.
5. Meat grinder
The most surprising thing is that we do not cook meat in our family. My wife doesn't eat it at all, but I eat, but I don't cook at home. Therefore, I do not use the meat grinder for its intended purpose. Usually I rub berries or shortcrust pastry through it.
Do you still have kitchen utensils from the USSR in your kitchen? What do you use most often?
