I bought an Italian biscuit roll in a supermarket, which is 5 times more expensive than its Russian counterparts. Checking if it's worth the money.
I recently tried 4 of the cheapest biscuit rolls that you can buy in regular supermarkets (I will leave a link to the review at the end of the article). After that, I thought, maybe the composition will be better in an expensive roll?
I set myself a goal and decided to find the most expensive biscuit roll that can be bought in a regular supermarket. I didn't have to look for a long time, I found it in Miratorg. You can always find something more expensive there.
In Miratorg, there were no rolls of 23 or even 40 rubles at all. The cheapest cost 69 rubles, from the brand for 7 days. But I was looking for the dearest one, and whoever seeks will always find. Here it is, the most expensive biscuit, its price is 129.90 or 130 rubles without 10 kopecks. Let's see what it is.
The biscuit packaging is no different. The same plastic and about the same design. Close-up of a sponge cake, from which the filling is oozing, yeah, so I believed, inside the filling, for sure, “the cat cried”. But before you open it, I suggest looking at the composition and place of manufacture.
The presence of palm oil and its derivatives in the composition is immediately striking. Even in an expensive product, the manufacturer did not hesitate to use not the most useful oil. The cheap rolls were also full of him, but I did not expect to meet him here.
The biscuit is made in Italy. Perhaps this is why such a high price is connected, because, in addition to the cost of the roll, delivery, customs clearance and other costs are added to the price. I looked at the price in Italy, and there such a roll costs 0.95 euros - at the current exchange rate it is about 75 rubles. It's time to take a look inside and find out what the biscuit looks like and how it tastes.
Externally, the biscuit is no different from cheap counterparts. Only in the color of the filling, here it is nutty, and in the cheap versions it was strawberry-cream. Let's try.
The roll tasted so-so. It has a soft sponge cake, but the fillings are clearly a bit too small. Part of it was absorbed into the biscuit, from which it got a little wet. But most importantly, there is no sugary sweetness that was felt in cheap rolls. It's time to summarize.
After trying the roll, I absolutely realized that paying 130 rubles for a biscuit roll is too much. Yes, it is better in composition than its cheap counterparts, but it certainly isn't worth the money. I liked the composition of the Pyaterochka roll even more.
I came to the conclusion that it is better to cook such a roll yourself, which I did. The recipe will be on the channel soon - subscribe not to miss it.
