It turned out that the famous Spanish artist Salvador Dali had a hand in creating the Chupa Chups brand. I tell you what he did and how the lollipop was born.

Ever since childhood, I remember these amazing candy on a stick. For the first time I tried Chupa Chups back in the times of the USSR. Papa's sister brought them from Finland.

Then Chupa Chups seemed to me something outlandish. Although it did not cause any particular surprise, because in our country there have been cockerels on a stick for a long time, but they could only be bought at fairs, and Chupa chups appeared almost everywhere.

I still remember the candy racks, all full of candy. Thanks to their bright wraps, they attracted a child's eye. This was made possible thanks to Salvador Dali and the founder of the company, but let's talk about everything in order.

Candy on a stick was invented by Enric Bernat in 1958. There are 2 versions of the appearance of the candy. First, Enric saw how the mother scolded the child for taking the candy out of his mouth and carefully examining it. The sugar melted and stained the child's hands. After that, Enric came up with a candy on a stick that you can suck, take out of your mouth, examine and not get dirty.

The second version, in my opinion, is closer to reality, but not so beautiful. In 1957, when Bernat became the head of a Spanish candy company, he took the risk and did some costly market research. The result showed that the main consumer of their sweets is children. They love to take bright candies out of their mouths and examine them, which their parents really don't like.

To please the adults who bought candy, Enric came up with the idea of putting the lollipop on a stick like a fork. This is how the Chupa-Chups candy appeared, which was first called GOL. Round ball hits your mouth - GOAL!

Enric Bernat turned out to be incredibly perspicacious. So he came up with a bright rack for Chup Chups for selling sweets in stores and ordered the sellers to put it lower so that the children could reach the sweets with their hands. But one of the most important stages in the formation of Chupa Chups was played by Salvador Dali.

In 1961, Enric turned to him for help in creating a logo for the candy. Dali agreed and made a logo in just a few hours for a rather large sum. The final sample Enric received on a scrap of newspaper.

In addition to the design, Dali recommended placing the logo on the wrapper at the top, and not on the side, as was previously the case. Thus, the entire logo was visible and not wrinkled. A decade later, the company changed the font a bit, but the main chamomile pattern remained unchanged.

An interesting fact. In addition to paying for the work, Dali asked to regularly send him a box with Chupa chups. Over time, he had so many sweets that he went out to the playground for a joke, licked Chupa chups and threw it in the sand. I watched the reaction of the children, and then repeated the procedure until the candy ran out.

This is the story of the origin of the Chupa Chups brand. Do you remember the first time you tried this candy?
